Home Tour: Alyssa and Allison's Bedroom

I've been a little lazy about finishing our home tour and it didn't help matters when I, on a whim, decided to switch Alyssa and Allison's room with the nursery.

 

Let's just say that the windows in the twins' old room were off center and it drove me bonkers trying to find the perfect arrangement for the furniture.

 

This is the wreath that I made for their door. I used pieces of scrap fabric and used a $3 (I think) 'A' in the middle.

I admit, I did make their beds for the pictures, but it's a routine that they make their own each morning. They are really showing improvement with that.

This is Allison's side of the bedroom.

 

It just so happens to be mysteriously missing a butterfly...SHOCKER!

I purchased their bed frames ($199 each), duvet ($20 each), duvet cover/pillowcase ($30 each) and curtains ($10 for both panels) all at IKEA.

 

Have I mentioned how much I love that place?!

I searched for quite awhile for the perfect night stand and finally decided on this little chest of drawers from...wait for it....can you guess? IKEA!

 

It was a steal at $35 and now we will get to pick the paint color.

The 'S' is for our last name and that is simply because they didn't have an 'A'.

We still need to fill a few picture frames, but I love them!

The girls do not use their closet since we have converted to a family closet in our master bedroom. This is where I keep most of our old homeschool things. I think I may get them out soon for Madelynn to use. 

I would like to find a cute little craft table to put in this area for them, but for now they have two chairs and a little caddy for their books.

I found both this 'Dance' sign ($20) and the adorably perfect shabby chic white table ($60) at HomeGoods.

 

I must say, it's a weird feeling having two daughters old enough to WANT a CD player in their room. They currently have Taylor Swift's latest CD in there and jam to it on a daily basis.

 

I'm really happy with the way that this room is turning out. It's not 100% finished, but we are off to a great start. It's technically smaller than their old room, but the furniture just makes more sense in here. There is much less wasted space and everything is centered on the window which makes this momma happy. :)

I also want to give the girls credit for keeping it so clean. Obviously I picked it up a little before snapping these pictures, but they do such an amazing job. 

What little princess wouldn't love this room?

Home Tour: Shoe Nook

*I'm not making excuses, but please keep in mind that we live in military housing.

 

Next stop on our home tour is our Shoe Nook.

 

It's nothing special. In fact, it's purpose (according to our floor plan) is to be a breakfast nook.

 

However, we do not have a mud room or foyer in our home so we took this space over as our Grand Central Station.

 

This is our shoe cabinet.

 

 

I like to keep our little red chair there for the girls to sit on while they get ready for school. I have everything that I need to make a bench, but just haven't made it a priority yet.

Up until last week, this is where we kept a little table for the girls to color at. Not only was the table too small for all three of them, but it was causing too much chaos in this area. Eventually I would like to place another table here (kid size and kid friendly) where they can do their crafts.

I keep all of my Scentsy and small candles in the top drawer along with my candle holders.

 

Yes, I still have black wax on the candle holders....from Halloween.

The middle area is for Johnathon and I to keep our shoes in.

 

Mainly mine since he is usually in work boots.

While Johnathon was on deployment, I found myself in the middle of such stress. I constantly tried to tell myself that it would pass and wouldn't you know it, it never did. Something else always happened and things were always hard. It took me 2 seconds to buy this plate when I saw it.

 

I look at it now and remember one of the hardest times in my life.

 I can smile about it now...now that the storm has passed.

What I love about this shoe cabinet is that the girls can hide their mess. Anyone with even one child knows the mess that they can make with their shoes. We've tried buckets, baskets, lining them up...NOTHING worked.

 

Well, it worked, but it was a horrible mess.

 

At least with this cabinet, it CAN be a mess and no one has to see it.

We purchased the cabinet from IKEA.

This is also where the girls hang their backpacks.

We have a larger coat rack near our front door for our guests, but we keep a small one in the back for our own.

Please ignore the fact that we have no indoor rug by our back door, that we do not have any curtains and that every wall, door and space is white.

 

It's a functional space that could (and usually does) get cluttered very easily.

I should probably note that on any given day we do have our random shoe or two sitting under the cabinet and crayons on our floor. :)

 

It's life people!

Home Tour: Madelynn's Bedroom

We've now lived in our current home for 8 months and I figured it was time to do a home tour.

 

Room number one on my list is Madelynn's bedroom.

 

It's one of the least used rooms during the week and most used room on the weekend.

 

Believe it or not, I found Madelynn's bed frame on Craigslist for $150. I'm so in love with it and can't believe that I found such a good deal. It was in perfect condition and it's heavy/sturdy! 

The book shelf is from Pottery Barn, but I found it at a rummage sale in my hometown for a whopping $30.

 

I know, right!? Such a great deal!

 

I guess it was purchased for a little girl who quickly out grew it and they just wanted it gone. I quickly and eagerly took it off of their hands. :)

 

It has been through numerous moves across the country and is still in very good condition.

The purple rug was a $20 Ross find.

I purchased the wall decals off of Amazon for $40. To be honest, I wasn't sure they were going to stay in her room at the beginning. It was just wasn't the look that I had envisioned. After a few furniture changes and adding a few colors to the room, it ended up working out. I like the way it looks now.

The Dance, Laugh and Dream signs were originally purchased from Target for $15/each for Alyssa and Allison room. The colors were too bold for their bedroom, but looked great in Madelynn's.

This beauty of a mirror I found at a local antique mall for $11 and painted it purple. I love it!

We tried a few different curtain options in her bedroom before deciding that they just looked out of place in there. I settled for a homemade valance made from scraps of fabric.

 

I just cut 1 inch strips of fabric and tied them in knots around a piece of twine. So easy!



We do keep Madelynn's closet locked, but for a very good reason. Inside is where we keep the toy box and other toys. I only allow the girls to have certain ones out at a time and we only get new ones out as they girls ask for them specifically or as we trade an old toy for a new one. We also do not use her closet for clothes storage. You will find a few blankets, sheets and pillows, but her clothes can be found in Johnathon and I's master closet.  

 



The pink sign was purchased from HomeGood's for $15 or $20 and was originally in the toy room (which has since been converted into a learning room, guest room and now nursery). 

We live in military housing, ya'll. There is nothing custom or unique about any of our rooms, but I think I made this room fun and vibrant for our very feisty little three year old. She loves it, I love it, what's not to love?
