Almost 3 years

I've said it many times lately that I can't come to terms with the fact that my babies are going to be three years old in a few short weeks.

Yes, I have a 6 month old, but Alyssa and Allison are my (and always will be) my babies.

After all, they are the ones that made me a mother. Whom I learned everything with. Changed everything for.

Thinking of their upcoming birthday puts a smile on my face, but to think of the rough journey that we faced still brings tears to my eyes.

On June 27th, 2007 @ 30 weeks gestation at 6:02 and 6:03 pm my world changed forever.
{sorry, i had to take pictures of pictures in order to post them. bad quality!}
Alyssa Kay 2lbs 9oz
Allison Leanne 3lbs 1oz
8 long weeks in the NICU.
Two small infants smaller than dolls.
Wondering every time you left the hospital, if it would be the last time you held your precious little babe.
Making lonely 3am trips to the hospital just to feed my little darlings and sing to them.
New tests everyday. New problems everyday.
Trying to remain hopeful as we see other sick babies leave, but not return.
I still remember what it felt like to hold them in my arms for the very first time...when they were 1 week old. Even then, it was only for a few minutes at a time.
Praying for each of them to have a long, fabulous and happy life.
Wondering and thinking about the kind of friendship that my daughters would share.
Watching them grow, get stronger and eventually hold their own temperature.
Crying myself to sleep every.single.night out of pure guilt.
Trying to keep family and friends updated from 3000 miles away.
Eventually my baby girls got to meet each other and see the person that will forever be their best friend. Confidante. Sleeping buddy. Partner in crime!
Soon we were able to bring them home.
Where they would grow into the beautiful little girls that they are today.
These little girls are my everything. My world.
Without them, life just wouldn't make sense.

I will be sad as they blow out their candles this year, but will also celebrate their lives. I will think of what almost didn't happen. Of the way things could have been.

I will be thankful that I am able to see my girls have their 3rd birthday.

What memories these pictures bring. I remembrt when johnny sent the first picture with his cell phone. I cried and cried. I was so terrified. For them of course but for you and johnny also. So far away, so young, and all alone to handle everything. I needn't of worried! You and Johnny stepped right in to your roles as parents and were then and are now amazing parents! Love you all!

Our story is the flip of yours! We had our son first and 21 months later our twin girls. They were born at 29 weeks and spent 7 weeks in the NICU. Can't wait to check out your blog more and see more of the story of your girls, your lil' one, and your family as a whole!
