My friends over at Multiples...and More! are having a Question of the Week for us mothers of multiples. I was actually excited to see this one as it comes up A LOT, especially with strangers who like to over analyze everything.

The question was...

How did you choose your multiples' names?
Did you stick with family names?
Not really. We decided to make the middle names after family. Alyssa KAY...it's spelled a few different ways (kay, caye, kaye) but it runs on both sides of the family. We obviously chose the spelling that is in my own name. Allison LEANNE...I've always liked Leanne, but never wanted to use it as a first name. My great grandpa's name was Lee and it is also my brothers middle name. We simply 'feminized' it and there you go!
How do you feel about "matchy" names?
I really couldn't care one way or the other. It just so happens that both of the names we picked started with 'A'. Other people find them similar, but it's not like Ryan and Brian or Sarah and Cara.
Did you worry about their names "coordinating"?
Nope...wasn't even an issue. I almost with I would have worried about it a little more. I'm not sure I would have kept the double 'A' names.
Did you name your babies before you met them, or wait until you saw them to assign names?
We were 100% on the two names, but we weren't sure what name to give to which girl. Since they came out looking identical, I just looked at Johnny around day 3 and said "Babe, name 'em. I don't care, just pick!". And that's how it happened.
What were your second choices?
We really like
d Maddison, Samantha, Savannah and Ashlynn.
Did you consider the popularity of a name as a deciding factor?
Nope. I have no idea what the popularity of either name was for that year.

Alyssa Kay and Allison Leanne were simply names that we liked and they just so happened to start with the letter 'A'. Everyone we meet thinks that its another scheme to confuse the girls into not having a true identity. HAHA! ...you're able to have your own opinions.

Greast post! Can I ask how old your twins were when your third daughter was born? We've got another baby due in August and we'll have three under 2 at our house- I think I'm happily oblivious to the chaos that is coming!

Love the names you picked! And I think a lot of people over think twin names and TRY to get them to match. It's not like if you had a sibling a few years apart with a name that starts the same as yours. No one would think twice about it.

We have 'A' names in our family, too! I wanted to name Rachel, "Ava", or "Allison", but no one voted with me! It all works out in the end!
